Classes
Character work. Scene Work. Team Work.
As part of our commitment to share the skills and wonder of improvised comedy performance, TBC Improv run and help organise improv classes throughout the year. These classes range from our core curriculum run in Edinburgh, one-off classes taught by invited teachers, and classes brought to various places.
Here at TBC Improv we focus on teaching a style of improv that is sincere, joyful and supportive. We focus on the skills and techniques that lead to engaging scenes that are enjoyable to watch, enjoyable to perform. Comedy forms a strong component of our scenes but not the only part: sincere emotion, characterisation and storytelling are also key. We don’t teach you to be the funniest in the room, but help you to share your creative genius with others and embrace their genius to build great scenes.
“Don’t bring a cathedral into a scene. Bring a brick; let’s build together.”

Core Programs
TBC Improv Classes curriculum is centered around the Core Programs: a series of improv courses at various levels that teach, develop and strengthen strong core improvisational skills around specific disciplines. All students begin with Introduction to Improv (101) before choosing which Core Program(s) they wish to focus on.
CP01: Improv Techniques
For those looking to learn the skills and techniques of improvisation to be become more comfortable in situations where we don’t know what will happen next. This core program is also ideal for performers (improvisational or otherwise) to work on their core toolkit.
CP02: Short-Form Improv
For those looking for a more practical core program and wishing to study the short-form games based style of improv found on Whose Line is it Anyway?. The core program covers various different types of short-form game, how to put on a show, and other general skills necessary to host and run short-form based shows.
CP03: Long-Form Improv
For those looking for a more practical core program and wishing to study the long-form performance style of improv, creating full shows based on single-word (or minimal) suggestions. The core program covers various different types of long-form performance, skills for scene- work without audience input, various skills for editing/supporting scenes, and other general skills necessary to host and run long-form based shows.
